Site Redevelopment

The Academy has been exploring its key differentiators and opportunities to lead in its area of speciality. Fundamentally, Rundle Academy is exploring a new school on the current site with the objectives to:

  • Provide optimal environments for learning and teaching, specific to diagnosed learning disabilities and associated co-occurring diagnosis.

  • Support an increase in student enrolment and associated staff.

  • Provide additional spaces to further engage the community and create a truly inclusive space.

  • Enable the school to fulfill its ambition to become recognized for their excellence in teaching.

Four options were reviewed on the current site. Each option allowed for phasing so the Academy can continue to operate during construction. Three of the options combined new and renovated buildings. The four options are:

Removing the Dorm building, renovating all remaining facilities and building a new building.

4. Options-01.jpg

Removing the Seminary building, renovating all remaining facilities and building a new building.

4. Options-02.jpg

Removing all existing building except the gym and building a new facility.

4. Options-03.jpg

Removing all existing buildings and building a new school.

Ultimately, the cost of Options 1, 2 and 3 was almost the same as building new (~80%) without the same level of functionality, sustainability or flexibility.

Based on this analysis, the Board of Directors accepted a recommendation from management to build a new school on the current site. It is the best option to create a 21st century school for students with learning disabilities; an option with the greatest return on investment for students and their families.
